Check this out, Togo just won its first ever Olympic medal. And guess in which sport...
Not soccer
Not boxing
but...
men's single Kayak slalom. Yep!
It's a bronze. But still, I am proud. You think it is not worth mentioning? Well, I think it is a good start that needed to be mentioned.
Believe me, there are many countries out there that are still "medalless".
Here is the link to the BBC News articles on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7556266.stm

Congratulations! as you said, that's a good start! I didn't have time to watch the Olympics, and I just realized that I don't even know if Romania won something till now. In the last days I focused more on the conflict from Georgia :( beside the serious problem, it's quite close to Romania... I can't wait to see what EU is doing, 'cause it's actually controlled by Russia and its energy sources. :(
The name is Benjamin Boukpeti.
But here is the thing: Born and raised in France from a Togolease father and French mother, he never step foot in Togo but once, and he was only 3 years old. He could've chosen to race for France, but he choosed Togo and made history.
Bravo! He was ranked 56th in the world. Let's see what rank this medal will get him.
